Tournament Rules

Regulations for regional qualifiers
World Amateur Golfers Championship Spain 2026
  • A player can participate in any Zone; even in several Zones at the same time.
  • All amateur golfers aged 16 and over can participate. If the winner and representative of the Spanish team is under 18 years of age, they must be accompanied by an adult to the World Final.
  • Players who are foreign nationals but hold a valid golf license issued by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG) and are permanent residents of Spain or hold a Spanish passport may play in the Regional Events, Zone Final, National Final, and World Final, representing Spain. (For this 2026 edition, Andorran players will be considered Spanish and must hold a valid RFEG golf license).
  • All players participating in any of the phases must hold a valid RFEG license.
  • The handicap used for scoring purposes will be a maximum of 25.4 for men and exact handicap for women.
  • The format will be Medal Play Handicap +4 maximum.
    • (maximum 7 strokes on par 3)
    • (maximum 8 strokes on par 4)
    • (maximum 9 strokes on par 5)
  • If two or more players are tied, the player with the lowest playing handicap will win. If the handicap is the same, the player with the best score on the last 9 holes of the second round will win. If the tie persists, the player with the best score on the first 9 holes of the first round will win. If the tie still persists, a draw will be held to determine the winner.
  • There are no separate men’s and women’s categories.
  • A series of tournaments will be held in each Zone. The 5 champions and 5 runners-up from each tournament will qualify for the Zone Final. These 10 players will play in the Zone Final.
  • The 5 winners of the Zone Final will attend the National Grand Final in Madrid on September 4th and 5th, with all expenses paid, except travel to and from the tournament.
  • The following will attend the National Grand Final in Madrid:
    • The 5 winners from the Cataluña Zone (one per category)
    • The 5 winners from the Madrid-Castilla Zone (one per category)
    • The 5 winners from the Andalusia Zone (one per category)
    • The 5 winners from the Balearic Islands Zone (one per category)
  • From the National Grand Final in Madrid, the 5 members of the National Team that will represent Spain in the 32nd World Final in Johor -Malaysia 2026 will be selected, with all expenses paid.
  • In the 5th category only: if the player who wins a regional event drops to a lower category, the next player in line will qualify, provided they are in the 5th category.
  • In all 5 categories: if the top two finishers in a regional event are unable to attend the Zone Final, their place will be taken by the next highest-ranked player, who will have the right to play in the Zone Final but not to win the trophy.
  • In all 5 categories: if the Zone champion is unable to attend the National Grand Final in Madrid, WITH ALL EXPENSES PAID, their place will be taken by the runner-up, and so on.
  • Each category must have a minimum of 5 players. If there are fewer players, they will be moved to the next higher category.
  • For example: in Category 1 there are 3 participants and in Category 2, 12 participants. Category 1 is eliminated, and there will be 15 participants in Category 2 only.
  • A player may participate in the same Zone as many times as they wish, even in several Zones simultaneously.
  • All tournaments in the Regional Phase will be organised in order of handicap.
  • Registrations will be processed and paid for at each golf course. The handicap price for each course will be set by the club.
  • The player limit per tournament will be set by the course/club, based on its capacity.
  • Tee-offs on regional courses may be shotgun or staggered, depending on the course, date, and RFEG recommendations. The tournament could also be held over two days.
  • All Men’s tee-offs will be from the Yellow tees; tee -offs from the Blue or Red tees are not permitted.
  • The handicap categories are:
  • If a player is initially classified in one category and subsequently changes categories, the Zonal Final will be played in the category they are in seven days prior to the Final.
  • Attendance at the Zone Final will have a fee set by the course, similar to a regular golf tournament.
  • All costs for participating in the National Final in Madrid (Retamares Golf Club) will be fully covered (except for travel).
  • All costs for participating in the World Final in Johor – Malaysia will be fully covered.
  • The rules of the game will be the official rules of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) and the local rules of each course.
  • The management of WAGC Spain reserves the right to change the regulations, suspend any event, or modify any point of these regulations for organizational purposes.
